Darfur: The Not on Our Watch Companion  

 

WASHINGTON, D.C.

One Horizon teams up with Washington-based ENOUGH Project and the General Board of Church and Society of the United Methodist Church to create a faith-based mobilization guide on Darfur. Released in August, The Not on Our Watch Christian Companion: Biblical Reflections on the Movement to End Genocide in Darfur and Beyond connects churches, fellowships, and individual Christians to the global movement to end genocide in Darfur and other human rights atrocities in Africa.

Bai Hua School Reconstruction Fund 

 

BAI HUA VILLAGE, SICHUAN

On May 12, 2008 a massive 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck Sichuan Province, China. An especially wrenching aspect of this disaster is the collapse of dozens of poorly constructed schools in towns and villages throughout the earthquake zone.

 

Nothing will replace the thousands of school children lost in the quake. But already the reconstruction effort has begun—hastened by the need to replace lost livelihoods and return displaced families to their homes.

 

One Horizon is participating in the recovery process by raising private matching funds to rebuild Bai Hua School in Wenchuan County, Sichuan. . . .

K.E.F. Releases Energy Conservation Study   

 

LEXINGTON, KY

Released on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, A Portfolio of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Options for East Kentucky Power Cooperative, is a study designed to “steer EKPC away from more dirty energy, and down a path to a clean energy future for Kentucky,” says Elizabeth Crowe of the Kentucky Environmental Foundation.

Sri Lanka Nutrition Center  

 

GALLE, SRI LANKA

In Fall 2007, One Horizon joined a partnership with AIM International Aid Society and Global Action to construct the Children’s Village Nutrition Center in Galle, Sri Lanka. The center under construction is an important component of a larger Children’s Village being developed by Global Action on an 3.25 hectare block of land given to it by the Sahana Foundation.

Seedleaf Launch 

 

LEXINGTON, KY

May 9, 2008 saw the launch of Seedleaf, Inc. a new non-profit organization linking community gardening and community mental health to the growing community supported agriculture movement (CSA). Launched with the support of a One Horizon grant, this visionary project is already creating change in the local community.
